However, the Master 2S takes things further as if you spin it fast enough while in ratchet mode, it will temporarily switch to smooth like spinning the Wheel of Fortune. The smooth vs ratchet (stepped) scrolling is nothing new. Then again, you may only find yourself ever using one of the two and decide to custom that button to something else. I find myself doing this all the time depending on my mood or what I am using the mouse for. The default function is to switch between the two scroll options. You can also configure the small square button, although you likely won’t touch this. You can even configure what clicking the main scroll wheel down does (defaut is “middle-click”). The Logitech Options app is quite user-friendly and simple to configure the mouse and you can make the buttons to whatever you want. The options are so plentiful, making this button incredibly powerful. You can individually set what each of these gestures do or pick from a list of group presets. You can switch between desktops, open the start menu, or show/hide desktop. However, if you press while dragging the mouse up, down, left, or right, it will perform one of four tasks.

It is a gesture button, which is even better than what the M705 (used to) have.īy default, a simple press will pop up Task View within Windows to easily switch between windows (this is what I’ve always use the button for). It’s only a small area of the fin with a button hiding underneath. You access the button by pressing down into the rubberized grip texture of the mouse.

It’s just located in a slightly different location with this one. I used this button a lot and I am so very happy to have it back. Logitech has since quietly updated the M705 and removed this button from its design. You see, that mouse used to have a button hidden in the side of the mouse that was similar to this. This is an option I really do miss in the M705. There is also a hidden button in the fin. I set mine to open Notepad and Calculator as I use this function far more than I ever need a forward/back option. These almost blend together so you have to feel around and sometimes squeeze the mouse a little weird to make sure you are hitting the right one and not both at the same time. The M705 was easier to quickly feel and click on them because it was left and right, and a tiny separation between them. It does take getting used to though thanks to how they slant across each other. The movement of the wheel is very smooth and hardly noticeable.Īs mentioned, the two buttons to the right of it are customizable, just like every other function/button of this mouse (using the Logitech Options desktop app). However, I have used it a number of times where I needed to finely scroll in either direction. The second scroll wheel is tucked away to the left of the back/forward (or customizable) button. Accuracy is higher, it has a built-in battery (chargeable from a USB port on the front), the main scroll wheel is a lot more advances, and offers a second scroll wheel by the thumb (horizontal scroll). It glides close to the same as the M705 and has al the same buttons.īeyond this, things change. It’s about 15% larger at most, with that fin sticking out for a nice place for your thumb to rest within.

It’s a slightly bigger mouse than the M705 but not by much. Thankfully, there is still a lot of inventory out there and it goes on sale a lot lately (links available toward the end of this review). Then you are stuck with the used community. Sadly, this one is no longer being manufactured by Logitech, so what you see in the market right now is what you get. I have since switched to the 2S myself after making use of it at one of the workstations a number of times until I fell in quite the like with it. So it is everywhere, including at my desk. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it has a darn good battery life to it. If I were to assume what the most common mouse in the office would be, it would be the Logitech M705. Which has allowed us to get a lot of use out of it and really “dig into our opinion” as someone else here likes to say at times. By quite some time, I mean quite some time. This review was a little late to the table as we have been using the 2S for quite some time on a number of machines now. Yet, I was still surprised by how much it won us over. So I already knew going into this, that the Logitech MX Master 2S was going to lead to a good result. Almost every single one of these devices throughout the building comes from Logitech, outside of some custom mechanical options some of us have opted for. It is no secret that Logitech is by far one of our favorite brands for mice and keyboards.
